So why is it that people ask expectant parents for the names they have in mind for their impending bundle 'o joy, only to tell the happy couple just how AWFUL they think the options are????? Seriously? What other topics in life lend themselves to this type of behavior? Why do people feel the need to be so blunt and cruel when giving an opinion for which we did not ask? If you ask us to tell you the names we have thought of naming our child, normal etiquette and common sense would tell ME that you should nod, smile, or say something non-commital. But just because I say the name out loud, does not give you permission to tell me alllll the things you hate about the name. I wouldnt ask you "what color are you planning to paint your family room?" only to say "RED?! oh what a horrible color! I wouldnt do it if I were you...it will be awful..." I would simply nod, smile, and say something non-commital like "Oh, i bet you'll love it!"....doesnt mean *I* will love it...but if *you* love it, that's all that really matters. Afterall, it is YOUR family room!
GRRR....
Still no word from the agency. shocker. We plan to call on Monday since it will have been a month since the whole "dont call us, we'll call you" mess. Did I mention that we just sent them aNOTher large sum of money to cover our completed home study and "advertising fees"..yeah, they better get out and ADVERTISE our profile!!!!!!!
Nothing else new here....Eric is doing well....Bailey turns 6 on Friday...we are taking my Grampa to dinner on Friday night. Havent seen him in a while and looking forward to political talk and a walk down Memory Lane. This weekend will likely be one of the last pool-worthy weekends of the year, so we plan to hang out and get some sun after our church Fall Festival on Saturday morning.
Ok, so it wasnt tooooo short....but I tried :)

Totally agree...my own mother snarled at the name we had picked out for a girl...thank God it's a boy.
((hugs))
I had the advertising fee thing with our old adoption agency. Yup, 3000.00 every quarter. I used to hound them constantly by calling every month to see if our profile had gone out. It was upsetting when it didn't go out, and it only went out 9 times in 2 years. It made me think...hmmm...we're paying you a heck of a lot of money and you've only sent it out to 9 people?
Adoption is tough. Try to hang in there. Unlike ART...it's WHEN not If.
Maybe you should consider switching agencies...that is frustrating.
I hear ya on the agency stuff! Ours is not being a walk in the freakin park! We still haven't even gotten our profile out there and we started this process in Aug. UGH! They are so slow!
Gosh I hope you get a call soon! GL sweetie

I too sometimes grit my teeth when people make comments on names. My mom is a school teacher and so a lot of names have "meaning" to her depending on what kids with that name she taught. Thank God the 3 names we have picked out most people seem to like or maybe it is just the way I tell them the name and why we chose it makes them keep their mouths shut.
Hugs and prayers with the agency. Our agency has the advertising fee also and our case worker does updates once a month. I try to be patient knowing that I will get an update around the 15th but sometimes it is hard. But I keep trying to remind myself that is there was something "good" to report then she would.
Enjoy the weekend!
Exactly why I'm going to be mum about names when the topic comes up!
Sorry for the frustration with the agency...hang in there!
Exactly why I plan on staying mum about names when the topic comes up! "We don't know" will likely be the answer....
Sorry for the frustration about your agency. Hang in there!
