OK, so I am gonna VENT. sorry. If you make it to the end of this post, you are a fantastic friend!
Some background: Eric had a truck when we met. Her name was "TeeTee" because she was a Toyota Tundra. She guzzled gas, but was fun. We took her to the beach. We had our first kiss leaning against her (sounds so redneck). And we took some fun road trips in TT. Well, 2 years ago we started TTC our Baby Bass, so we traded in TeeTee. We loved her, but she was just not practical...we thought. The only reason we let her go was because we thought I would be pregnant and a truck wouldnt work for us (me).
The current situation:
Well, for 2 or 3 weeks now Eric has been eyeing trucks everywhere we go. There was one for sale down the road, so he insisted on stopping by to look at it. It was nice, practically brand new, "only had highway miles on her", and priced nicely. We (he) talked about it (to death) and decided the price wasnt "perfect" and that he really should wait for "perfect".
Then, there was a 4Runner (we both LOVE) on the lot while he was getting his oil changed last week and he called to tell me alllllll about it. He talked to the sales guy but couldnt get him to get the price he had set in his mind. The guy was off by about $800. The guy called back on Monday to say he had a better offer for Eric, but Eric still said no, it just wasnt good enough. So then on Tuesday he comes home from work and says that some dude at work is selling his truck. He was like a little kid...his eyes got all big and stupid.
Now, each time he brings up this truck conversation, I just smile and say, "you know our finances better than i do right now...if you think we can afford it, i know you wouldnt put us in a tough financial spot...i trust you." The truth is, I trust him with my life and everything we own. He wouldnt screw us. I know that. But after about 500 truck conversations, i started saying things like "well, just make sure that we can afford IVF in January." and "you know people were sending me FREE IVF meds because I was under the impression that we couldnt afford IVF in August...." and "if you think we can afford my IVF meds in January, then I really dont care if you come home with a truck." Well...today he calls on his way home and it goes a lil something like this:
"hey babe, what are you doin'?"
"watering the grass, what are you doin'?"
"I am on my way home but just wanted to see if you wanted to look at Steve's truck...he has it up here at work."
".......long pause....you could drive that truck home here and park it in our garage and call it 'ours' and i really wouldnt bat an eyelash. it doesnt matter if i like it or not. once again, i dont care if you buy a truck, but we had better be able to afford IVF meds in January."
"i know.....but it DOES matter if you like it or not. i'm not gonna buy it if you dont like it."
"......i dont think you get it....i dont wanna fight about this. if you want a truck, buy it. but just know that i never want to hear 'we really need to cut back our spending' and 'you bought MORE stuff for the house today?' or 'looks like we wont be able to IVF in January afterall' ever again...you told me we couldnt afford to do IVF in August because your student loans were coming due next month and we had overspent....now you wanna buy a truck!?"(keep in mind i am still watering my grass in my front yard....i then realize i must keep my tone down)
"ok...i am done talking about it. i dont even want it anymore"
"just come home"(but i feel soooo bad because I KNOW how badly he wants that truck, andhe works SOOO hard, and I really feel like he DESERVES that truck....i WANT him to have it. But I also want a child.
so he comes home and i tell him AGAIN that my feelings are hurt and that I was under the impression that his student loans were the reason we needed to wait a little while for IVF. He says that he forgot that his company owes him his tuition reimbursement check for his last semester ($4000!), and that should cover several months of loan payments. ummmm...forgot? $4000??? Did he also forget that my IVF meds would be $5000? And that the forgotten $4000 could have very easily paid for the IVF meds....not a TRUCK!???
I cried, he didnt really see my point. Well, he SAYS he sees my point ("i get it...you think i told you that we couldnt pay for IVF but now I am telling you we can afford a truck...i get it") but he doesnt seem to understand that that would hurt my feelings or make me question his priorities. Wasnt he the one who wanted to try on our own in August?????? ugh.
And all this after a very romantic night last night....what a jerk.
So now he is home and he is hanging mirrors and pictures and paiting walls and doing all the jobs around the house that should have been done already. I am boycotting. We are eating pizza because...hey, if we can afford a truck, we can afford pizza. And I dont feel like cooking.
I just dont understand how, when he realized that we were going to have an "extra" $4000, he didnt immediately think, "OH! We CAN do IVF in August!!!" Instead he thought of a truck.....
And when I say this to him, he says "I thought we werent doing IVF in August because you wanted to keep running and lose some more weight....." GRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr.... I told him that I used that to convince myself that I was okay with waiting til January since he had told me we had to wait due to finances! (And seriously....how smart was it REALLY to bring up the whole weight topic in the midst of a battle??? C'mon.)
So....in the end I know what will happen. Eric will get his truck and I will get IVF in January. But I will no longer be refering to any truck of ours as TeeTee. She will be named "ARIASNAM", short for "Another Reason I Am Still Not A Mom". (Okay, so it doesnt quite roll off the tongue as easily as TeeTee...but it gets my point across.)
Like I said...yall are good friends! Thanks for letting me vent! :)

Kathleen~This is Tammy from our just for mom's group. I have been on vacation, while we were gone my son put a new hard drive in our computer and now I have to wait for him to come back over to get my email addresses off the old hard drive. All he saved was my favorites. I had our just mom's site saved as my home page so now I don't have the link to the site any more. I hope I don't get booted because I haven't posted in a week. Can you email me the link? I am able to get my mail thru my server until my son can come back and set up my email again. Thanks my10chicklets@tds.net
All I have saved in my favorites was everyones blogs, so I put this message on Marsha's and Lauren's blogs also, it is the only thing I can think of.
