New Doc...Same Diagnosis..New Outlook

So, we went to see the new doc today (thanks, Jess!). He is SOOOOOOOO nice. He actually listens to us! I noticed that i was rambling and talking REALLY fast (even for me) when I was trying to tell the Cliffs Notes version of "My Story" (aka: 2000: went to local college-town gyno to get on the BCP, he found cyst size of softball....left school right before finals to go have then honeydew-melon-sized cyst removed in my hometown in CT,...went in for pre-op appt and found out i was pregnant,....fiancee (who was in Germany) and i really excited, but told to hold our excitement until after surgery.....went thru surgery, lost my ovary AND my pregnancy (i still cant bring myself to say "baby",.....went on to realize that "it just wasnt the right time, etc")......next year, EXACTLY one year later, large cyst in my right (and now ONLY) ovary.....had fertility doc remove it and save my ovary....fastforward 4 years....Eric and I are trying to get pregnant, i panic after 5 months of ttc on our own, get a cyst (yes, again), go to gyno who says "you need IVF"....go to fertility doc from 4 years ago...he says "you need IVF"....so we jump into IVF..."you're so young!", "It will work!", "Your chances are soooooo great!", etc etc.....lies lies lies. It didnt work....doc states "you need donor eggs...you will not get pregnant using the eggs you were given".........new doc tells us "you never needed IVF!", failed clomid/IUI cycle, time off from TTC, re-gained a marriage and a LIFE. Fastforward to January 2007....TTC again, on our own. GIANT, hemorrhagic cyst, almost lose ovary...no doc will touch me...."too risky"...."you will likely lose your ovary"....finally get cyst aspirated and decide the docs are probably right, we SHOULD rely on IVF"....wait for cysts to resolve with more BCP, April 2007 try IVF again....didnt respond, end up with cyst, back on BCP........throw in another clomid/IUI cycle and a lot of tears, and THAT is what I had to explain to this poor doc today.)

SO....he listened and listened and listened and handed me a lot of tissues (which, by the way, when someone is crying, dont just hand them ONE tissue.....hand them FOUR or FIVE.....this doc knew that rule). He really wants to help us and even wanted to personally call our current RE to tell him "this couple REALLY wants a baby.....let's make it happen.....just listen to them a little better, okay?"...i mean, docs dont DO that nowadays!
He did an exam (wasnt prepared for THAT....oh well.) and said he didnt feel a cyst (YEAH!), but still thinks that the cysts are our major problemo (duh...). Said he thinks we are in good hands and that IVF gives us the best chance. i cant say I disagree.

So.....then the next dilemma presents itself:
August: wedding, showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties....alcohol

September: UCF football starts. we are season ticket holders, and that SHOULDNT have any bearing on our TTC issues, but it does. I hope no one reading this thinks any less of us, but we like our drinks. :) We like to tailgate. We planned 2006 around TTC/IVF and it obviously didnt pay off...so we are determined to enjoy this tailgate season with a few adult beverages. It might make us sound like party animals, or even alcoholics, but if we didnt have a beer or 5 at our tailgate, people would look at us funny and ask why we werent drinking. Then, it would be obvious that we were doing IVF again, and that is NOT what I want.

October: still football season, Oktoberfest in Helen, GA with friends from across the country

November: thanksgiving and STILL football season

December: not so interested in getting bad news at the holidays...call me crazy.
So....that brings us to January.

The doc had a good idea: pick a "start date". On that date, you start trying again, whether we do IUIs at first and then IVF, or if we jump back into IVF with our best odds. Just make a start date. Then, dont stop trying until we get pregnant. We are open to that idea. We have just done too much "waiting" and "taking a break". By January we will have lost a few more pounds (despite the tailgating :)), saved up more for the meds, and made a few more "us" memories. We will still both be in our 20s when we get pregnant (and hopefully when we give birth), and we will be able to give 100% to TTC. (And, Eric pointed out, if we get pregnant in January, the baby will be here in time to wear a cute UCF Knights onesie to a game in 2008! :))

SO....we have a decent plan. Will I cry and want to try before then??? yep. Am I okay with that??? yep. Why am I cool with that?? because i have the BEST friends and husband in the WORLD!

SO...there you have it. Hoping and praying for a 2008 Baby Bass!!!!!!! (The Hot Mamas are gonna be overflowing with belly pics next year!!!!)
