The Halloween Adventures of the Basses

We were sitting outside with our neighbors Friday night, handing out candy. Bailey was on his leash. When kids would come to the driveway to get candy, Eric would walk to the end of the driveway to hand it out, so Bailey didnt get excited and accidentally knock over a kid. (He LOVES kids and want to play with them ALL.)
Our other neighbors across the street "saw how much fun we were having" and asked "mind if we come over"? I said "uh oh" and handed Bailey's leash to Eric because Bailey has met their dog before, and it didnt go well. (Their dog snapped at him the first time they met, and it freaked me out.) So Eric takes Bailey's leash, and the other neighbors cross onto the driveway with their dog on a leash. The other dog jerked forward, ran to bailey and bit his whole face. He got Bailey's jaw in his mouth and would not let go. I was screaming "Stop them! Pull him off my dog! He's not letting go of him!" and finally the other dog let go. I cant even tell you a whole lot about what happened next. The driveway was covered in blood..my puppy's blood. He was crying and howling and trying to back way from us in pain. Blood was literally spraying me and Summer while we tried to calm him down and stop the bleeding. Eric and Mike ran to get the car and came to get us (20 yards away). Bailey was pathetic.
The guys threw Bailey in the backseat of the car, blood covering all of us. SOOO scary. I know he's just a dog. I get that. So please dont think I am stupid. I literally thought Bailey was dying. We rushed to the emergency vet (20 minutes away), with Bailey calming down in the back seat, still bleeding from his snout and mouth.
The emergency vet cleaned it up and then we could take a breath. The cuts are not nearly as bad as we were thinking, but because it was a facial injury, it bled fast and gushed. Our poor pup has 3 puncture wounds on his nose and by his whiskers, a deep scratch from one whisker, and a little scratch right below his eye. He is mopey and keeps licking his face/cheeks.
Eric is took him to our vet (since we have health coverage for bailey, the stitches he needs will be covered). The emergency vet said the stitches could wait and that the cuts would probably heal on their own, and that most of them are in spots that cant be stitched. But he recommended we take him to our own vet to be checked again. So Eric took him in and the vet cleaned him good, cut back his whiskers so they arent hanging, and gave him antibiotics, antiinflammatories, and some ointment. We go back in 2 weeks to make sure he is okay.

I know there are some animal lovers on here, and our poor baileydog could use some prayers. He is miserable. I know it will heal and I know he will be fine. I just hate that it even happened. He was attacked for NO REASON. A Lot of the neighbors saw it happen and heard the commotion and were really upset. Our neighborhood LOVES our Bailey. He loves the kids and everyone sees us run with him and walk him and ride bikes...everyone was telling us how they "know" bailey just from seeing us with him, and what a nice dog he is. I hate that he had to go through this.

I myself have a Bailey dog that I love. He's actually my profile picture. I think that's so irresponsible of your neighbor. I hope you got a big fat apology from them. Prayers for sweet Bailey are sent :)

Oh my goodness, poor Bailey puppy. Our dogs are just as much fam as humans...and I prob'ly would've been screaming as much if not more. Prayers for Bailey and I hope the neighbors seek social training for their dog before he does something worse and the law gets involved.
