"What is this?", you ask.
This is what happens when little brother can't get it together long enough to watch his big sister on the morning news at school. Because "it takes a village", and my village is awesome, I had a friend to hand Grady off to so I could quickly race to view Whitney as she announced her achievement in math and reading on the news. Except as I tossed the threenager to friends (who were also working the Book Fair!), I walked back in to witness Whitney .......walking off camera.
She saw me there before she went on air. She saw me there after her debut. And she doesn't know I didn't technically witness her "on TV". But I might have had tears in my eyes when we left the parking lot.
The dude? Found a Thomas book at the book fair. Lost his mind as we fled the scene, came home, crawled into his crib by himself, and slept for two hours. Apparently threenagers require more sleep. And so do I.
Thankfully, she achieved AGAIN and was on the news AGAIN a few weeks later :)
Whitney's class had their Kindergarten Awards Ceremony at the end of April!
Have I mentioned that we LOVE her school?!?
The class is a great mix of kids....some super silly, others super quiet....some rule followers (like our girl!) and others rule-benders.....The class was filled (mostly) with the students who scored highest on the Kindergarten placement test last year, so the teacher was able to really challenge this group and push them to achieve. Whitney was never bored and met all the goals nicely. She excels in Reading, earning a "Level 4" on the standardized test, the highest level possible. And she is still above-average in math with a solid "Level 3". We are super proud of her accomplishments and love that she learned just as much socially as she did academically.
Each kid got an award (everyone gets a trophy syndrome!), and I might be biased, but I think Whitney got the "best" award :)
She was given the "Most Loving" award :)
Whitney's teacher compiled all the kids monthly projects into a giant book for us. The November turkey made us smile, as she sure loves her Uncle Jay, but decided to add her "Uncle" Joey to her thankful turkey.
The class recited an ADORABLE poem! There is a video but I cant get it to upload. :(
So proud of this girl! She is so beautiful on the inside and the outside, and she is so smart! Her vocabulary blows us away, and her memory is unmatched. She teaches us and her brother something every day, and she is an awesome friend. Her giggle is infectious and while she is a strict rule-follower and a slowpoke, she can be the loudest and proudest when she accomplishes something she's worked hard for. I LOVE when she exclaims, "Mommy! I DID IT!!" with so much excitement and pride. She thinks gross, typical Kindergarten stuff is hilarious and she loves music and her little brother and swimming and imagining she's a pony or a teacher or a puppy. She is so much fun!

Such an awesome group of girlies!
Mrs. D....a fantastic teacher and the perfect way to start Elementary School. She is calm and collected. She's got that routine down and has the patience of a Saint. A friend started the hashtag "FairyTaleKindergarten", and I sorta couldnt agree more.
So this happened.
And thankfully, that very-dead-looking fish made a miraculous comeback and was swimming around when we got home later that night.
He is currently in Whitney's room, living as though the Blue Oil Incident of 2015 never even happened.
Love this guy.
I showed the kids this picture of a whale off the coast "where Uncle Jay lives in Massachusetts." Grady said, "Dat's not where untnle Jay lives. Untnle Jay lives in BOSTON!" and Whitney piped up, "No, its in Massachusetts, but its not in Boston. It says its in Plymouth....that's where the Pilgrims landed." And I decided they are too smart for me.
And it may have been a few weeks late this year, but we finally tackled our annual Birthday Party Park picture!
