Heartbeats, Beds, Splash Bash, and Disney

At Whitney's six-year check-up, her doctor found what she thought was a heart murmur.  She said it was pretty significant, so we made an appointment to have a cardiologist listen to give us confirmation.  Whitney was a champ, and thought the medical stuff was all soooo coooool :)

All was well and the murmur will likely disappear on its own over time. When we went into the ultrasound room, the lights were dimmed, and the tech put the jelly on Whitney's chest.  Its a routine I am insanely familiar with, having been through countless ultrasounds in my cyst and fertility treatment days.  But what I wasnt expecting at ALL was the overflow of emotions and the tears that would come to my eyes when the tech started the ultrasound and the dark room was filled with the sound of our girl's sweet heartbeat.  I was in love all over again.  Having never gone to one of T's ultrasounds, I have never heard Whitney's heartbeat fill the room the way I heard Grady's when he was still in my belly.  That heartbeat is amazing.  I loved hearing it.

Technology is amazing. I never got to hear Whitney's heartbeat in utero, and having had hundreds of ultrasounds myself, I didn't really think I missed out on anything. Just now I got to hear Whitney's heartbeat fill the dark u/s room and I was surprised to have tears fill my eyes. She's six years old but that heartbeat is amazing to this mama.

She cracks me up!

Grady had been asking to sleep in our bed often, so we thought maybe that was his way of asking for his own big kid bed.  Eric grabbed the toddler bed from the attic and we tried it out......

It started out nicely.  Whitney read him a Thomas book in bed and he snuggled up with his monkeys and asked me to cuddle him.

I rubbed his back for a minute or two and told him all our usual goodnight stuff....and I left the room.  The Dude scared the heck outta me a minute later as I sat on the couch in the family room!  I brought him back to bed and sat on the floor next to his bed.  Immediately I knew.  This was a no go.  Not yet.  He's not to be trusted with free roam of the house.  Not unless I planned to lock his door or sleep on his floor until the end of time.
And neither of those things were acceptable solutions considering we didnt really have a "problem" with his crib in the first place.  He has never climbed out of his crib.  Only in.  He loves his bed.
We took the toddler bed back to the attic for the next garage sale, as I think we will move him to a twin bed that is a bit higher than the toddler bed option.  Maybe a few more months and a few more inches off the ground will help him stay in bed :)

No rush :)

He's only little for so long....so I dont think either one of us is in a big rush towards a big kid bed.  And he hasnt asked to sleep in our bed since :)

More evening family tennis :)

I love listening to her read :)

I grabbed a workbook to work through with Whitney this Summer.  In flipping through the pages of various workbooks in the store, I realized that she already has most of the First Grade topics mastered, and while I want to review stuff with her, I also want to keep her challenged.  So I grabbed the Second Grade workbook and she has been LOVING it! She jumped right in! Just one or two pages a day, and she has been asking to do more! Ive been so excited about her enthusiasm, and love that there is no pressure to catch up over the summer months.  She WANTS to learn! I have been pulling stuff of Pinterest and out of my old Second Grade files and bins, and she and I have been having so much fun!

Whitney's school celebrated readers by having a Reading Splash Bash to award all the students who met their Reading Counts points goal.  Whitney's whole class got to participate and they were SO excited!!

Bounce houses and water slides and dancing and hula hoops and bubbles and water games! They had a BLAST!

And Whitney's favorite part? That Eric and I both volunteered at the event!

It was an awesome way to reward the kids, and the weather was great!

Eric went to pick Grady up from school and I helped get Whitney's class into dry clothes and their cool new Splash Bash t-shirts!

Whitney and her bestie :) We sooo hope they are in the same class again next year!

And they were WIPED. OUT.

The Assistant Principal was taking pics and was a great sport, fulfilling her promises to some kids who were struggling to meet their goals.  She went down the water slide!

I soooo loved being a small part of Whitney's first year in her 'big kid school".  These kids are AWESOME!

And when Whitney and I met Eric and Grady back at home, we grabbed some lunch and headed to our favorite place to celebrate:

The House of Mouse!

Rollercoasters and Dumbo and

...train rides....

....that turned into major memories!  Whitney and Grady got a chance to shout the "ALLLL ABOARD!!" as the train left the station!

...with help from Big Sis :)

Magic. Every. Time.

And yet ANOTHER visit with Tink :)

Grady kept going back for more hugs and kisses :)

Creeper status. ;)
