Christmas Week, Part Five

While Whitney enjoyed a much-needed, loooong nap, Eric and I watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and celebrated our second successful year as Mr. and Mrs. Claus with a glass of wine.  When Sleeping Beauty finally rose from her slumber, we headed straight over to my parents' house for munchies and more gifts!
Now, THIS is how *I* remember Christmas as a kid.  Wrapping paper everywhere, people all talking at once and showing off the gift they just opened, and cameras flashing rapidly as people laughed and smiled and thanked and laughed some more.  It may seem like chaos to someone peeking in the windows, but THIS is what Christmas is to me.  Family. Smiles. Pictures. Wrapping paper. Laughing kids and adults. Gag gifts and sentimental gifts, all in the same pile. And more pictures.

Uncle Jay was taking a nap when we got to Mac and Gramps.  He was a trooper, getting up SUPER early to come watch Whitney open her gifts this morning! Whitney made sure to thank him for the bicycle he got her for Christmas....by honking the horn while he slept on the couch. :)
Rise and shine, Uncle Jay!!
Talkin' on the steps...

Uncle Jay took Whitney for a spin on her new bike while G.G. cheered them on!

Whitney was really getting into the present gig again tonight.  She LOVES to help pass out the gifts :)  She helped Gramps get the night rolling...

"Here go, Daddy!"
Hugs for unopened gifts :)

Showing off her doll, a real hit this year!

She was proud to give Uncle D his gifts :)

Can you feel the chaos yet? Family crowded on couches and spread out on the floor in one room, gifts being passed out, a "roaring fire" going in the background, wrapping paper flying and being shoved aside, laughter, and cameras....Christmas. :)

We quickly remembered our struggles from Whitney's birthday in April.  WHO decides how these kids' toys need to be packaged!???? Twist ties? Requiring knives to open!?? And the plastic is EXTREME plastic. You cant just rip into a toy and start playing....it requires MAJOR effort from parents, and possibly some mumbled curse words to bring the holiday cheer alive!

All she wanted was some new shoes for "Emma", her new doll.....little did she know it would take 10 minutes and a sweat-inducing struggle from her Daddy.
How PERFECT is this shirt from Whitney's Aunt Lynzie??? "Best Gift Ever"...uh, YEAH! LOOOVE it! THANKS, Lynzie!! xoxo

Cant you just hear the laughs?? :) My favorite.

Studying the gifts. Showing them off.  "Thank you"'s flying. And again...the laughs.

This sums it up nicely. Camera? check. Laughter? check.  Wrapping paper? check.  New toys? check. check. check.

G.G. invited us all upstairs to show Whitney the manger and Baby Jesus he has set up every year.  Whitney loved giving Baby Jesus some hugs and some "Happy Birthdays!"

She was trying to blow out the candles on the table :)

And of course, it wouldnt be a holiday without a decent attempt at a group picture! Eric delivered AGAIN this year, with the tripod and my camera, we were able to get everyone to look at the camera AND smile, simultaneously!
Merry Christmas!!
