A Few Firsts

First: some proof that my Aunt Gerry DOES exist, and WAS here to meet Miss Whitney!

Yesterday was Whitney's debut at church! We were very excited to show her off and thank everyone for all their prayers through the wait for our little girl. We were in a rush to get out of the house (have I mentioned how much stuff is involved with traveling with a child?!), so we didnt take as many pics as we wanted, but I want to say a HUGE "THANK YOU!" to our friends Kim, Abe, and Emily who sent us Whitney's dress.

Our church announced her birth and homecoming in the church bulletin and, of course, I got all teary-eyed! I have watched sooo many birth announcements in that bulletin through the years...it felt GREAT to finally be OUR TURN! :)

Today was the first day Whitney and I spent together, just the two of us. Years ago, at about 3am, when Bailey was asking to go outside for the 5th time that night, I told Eric "I PROMISE I will get up with our kid EVERY NIGHT if you just let Bailey out now..." So..the time has come for me to make good on that promise. Whitney ate around 12:30am and then we both went right back to bed. She woke up around 3:15 and had another bottle..and then she didnt want to go back to sleep. She thought it was time to party! We hung out in the rocking chair, talking, and praying together until about 4:30am. From 4:30 to about 5:45, Whitney struggled to keep her binky in her mouth and was groaning and grunting in her sleep, so I didnt get very much real SLEEP last night...but it is sooo worth it!
Eric left for work this morning and Whitney and I slept a little longer and cuddled Bailey. Then, while I got ready for the day (hair drying, face washing, super-speedy style), this is what awaited me on our bathroom floor:

They were hangin' out, waiting for the day to get going. :) It melted my heart:) Whitney sleeps through the hair dryer, the vaccum cleaner, the laundry room noises, and any loud TV/music you can imagine. She is a SLEEEEPER during the day!

I was brave enough to venture out of the house by ourselves today. We just went to the post office to ship out the first update for T and L, but I was excited with how well it went! No tears from her OR me! :) Whitney, of course, received plenty of compliments on our brief outing. :) She is just so stinkin' CUTE!

When we came home, she took a little nap on my chest while I internetted it (Face.book, blogs, face.book, blogs, google, face.book, blogs, news, repeat) and chatted with Mandy online. I thought I would be this amazingly June Cleaver-ish housewife/mother and mop the floors and do all the laundry, etc. Eric works so hard at the office, so I wanted to make sure he came home to a clean house and happy baby. :) (I know...how 1950's....its all I've ever wanted...) I accomplished all my goals (mopped, dusted, laundry, bottles, laundry, bottles...oh, and did I mention BOTTLES?!), but I definitely had to work around Whitney's schedule. :) As soon as I would put her down in the bassinet or the crib or the swing or on a blanket, she would INSTANTLY wake up. So we would chat for a minute or two and then I would pick her up and start all over. We played this game a few times, but I was able to be that good housewife (today). Eric came home to a clean house, a happy baby, and a hot meal. :)

During one of my attempts to get something done around here, I put Whitney in her crib. I was only folding laundry in the next room, so I could hear her perfectly and I think I checked on her 4 times in 10 minutes. One time I checked on her, and this is what I found:

Bailey is such a great big brother! He just wanted to be by his little sis while she tried out her new big bed. :) A lot of you have asked how he is doing with her...this sums it up. He loves her, but he is still himself and still loves his squeaky toys, too. He is being REALLLY well-behaved and truly impressive. Once again, proving how blessed we are!

Since Bailey the Big Brother was being soooo good, I decided to treat him to a walk around the block. It was HOTT out, but Whitney stayed awake the whole time and seems to enjoy time outside. She crashed as soon as we came through the door.

As I sit here, ready to wrap up this post and wrap up our day, this is what sits next to me:

Daddy missed his girls today. :) So I am off to spend time with my dreams come true!

I'm so thrilled to hear such a happy report from you. I didn't expect anything less, but I remember the early days of having our blessing by adoption and am thrilled that you have your own blessing to experience in this way. Sweet days!

Praying for T & L.

I'm so glad Whitney is enjoying her outfits. She is so cute in them too. I think she would make a potato sack cute though. I also love looking at your pictures and hearing all of the details and joy of your day. It all makes me want another baby. Just make sure to enjoy it because I don't even remember it and that was only 18 months ago.

Love ya,
Kim
